What it the Calm Room?

The Calm Room is our brand new space in Madeley Street which has been developed for pet bereavement whilst also incorporating the need for a sensory-safe space for our neurodivergent clients.

The Calm Room is a supportive space for pet bereavement consulting, the collection of ashes, euthanasia and pet loss support. Measures have also been taken in the creation of the Calm Room to cater for the needs of neurodiverse people also.

How did the Idea come about?

Cherished Pets celebrates the human-animal bond and the meaning that it brings to many people's lives in our community. We recognise the value in holding a space for people to grieve and process their loss.

In continuing this vision, we created a subcommittee who were  tasked to research and design a space suitable for bereavement which was also sensory friendly, as our research demonstrated there is a lot of crossover between the two. The Calm Room was the answer and we set about, with the help of King Funerals support, to create this multi-purpose room to allow us to support pets and their humans through all life stages.

The Official Opening

The Calm Room officially opened on July 6th, 2022 with honorable celebrity guest Womble, the black Labrador who is trained as a bereavement comfort dog. You may recognise Womble from his recent news coverage on TV.

We assisted Kings Funerals in finding Womble and he has been doing a wonderful job in his important role, which is to be present and provide comfort to families experiencing grief at funeral arrangements and the funeral itself. He also helps people to remain calm and allow others to feel more comfortable to express emotions, talk, and find comfort from his presence.
