Our grooming service has suffered interruption over the past few months. We understand the frustration this has caused many people. It’s been unprecedented and we sincerely apologise for the disruption. We had anticipated finding another groomer by now to replace our wonderful Leanne who has retired from grooming after 20 years! Her contribution to the industry has been exemplary and she has earned her break.
Our grooming team is now restricted with one senior groomer (Emily) and her assistant (Charli). They're doing such an amazing job! However, at the moment we cannot meet the demand for our grooming service. We are actively seeking an experienced groomer and will hopefully soon be expanding our grooming team and service capacity.
Therefore, we are introducing changes to our grooming service moving forward:
- We have undertaken an industry survey on our pricing and will be increasing our fees in line with other operators. This price increase will take effect from 1st April.
- We cannot accept new clients to our grooming service.
- We will prioritise health and comfort grooms particularly special needs dogs and those in our hospice care program.
- We will prioritise clients of Cherished Pets Community Vet Care.
- We may recommend a “chill pack” prior to the grooming service which will be prescribed via our vet clinic (and a vet consultation if the pet hasn’t been seen before) at an additional cost. This ensures that the grooming visit is a better and safer experience for your pet and our staff.
- As we often only have one person on duty, we can only groom dogs under 35 kgs as it is an OH&S risk to proceed with some of the larger grooms.
- If you are more than 15 mins late for your grooming appointment without notification you may be denied service.
- Missed appointments without notice may lead to forfeiting all future bookings.
Everything we do at Cherished Pets is to support the pet and their human. We are dedicated to providing a calm and caring service to your pets.
We provide general grooms to keep pets healthy and well and don’t do specific breed clips. We also provide veterinary advice on creating a positive experience for anxious dogs who find grooming stressful.
If you have specific concerns about your dog’s coat and skin health, contact our vet clinic for an assessment where urgent health grooms can be arranged.
A note from our Founder Dr Lissi:
"We are seeing an exponential demand for grooming services across Geelong (and nationally) with a shortage of groomers being felt by many. I personally know of 4 excellent and experienced groomers who have recently retired from the industry in our region. Pet grooming is hard work requiring skills, patience and dedication. Due to the puppy boom in Australia through the pandemic, we are seeing more demand for grooms and people's expectations are often unrealistic around what can be accomplished within a cost and time frame".
Regretfully our Grooming and Hub Team has been subjected to unkind treatment by some of our clients, and while we understand the frustration caused, there is no excuse for unkind and offensive behaviour. Such behaviour will lead to expulsion from our service.
Thank you to those of you who are already following our guidelines and offering support to our team. We appreciate you.
We can suggest you visit the Facebook Group “Find A Groomer Geelong” if you are seeking a new grooming service. There are several new groomers operating private services in our region.

Always keep an eye on your dog’s eyes, bottom area, ears and paws. Remove prickles daily. Wash and brush your dog regularly to reduce the need for grooming. Train your dogs to be groomed.
