Now the borders are open, we can celebrate Christmas at home with family and friends.
This Christmas sadly Gage and Basteyn are without a family and a home. They lost their number one person, Belinda, just a few weeks ago and now they need our help.
Belinda adored these two. They were her family and she would have done anything in the world to have had Christmas with them. Sadly, in November Belinda lost her battle with melanoma. She spent the year in and out of hospital for treatment and surgery. She lived on her own with “her boys” and every time Belinda was admitted to hospital her biggest worry was who would care for them.
Cherished Pets understands that pets are family and how much we need to be with them. We understand the worry when we can’t take care of them. The Cherished Pets’ vet social service care team stepped in and held Belinda’s hand, working alongside her healthcare team. We made sure that when Belinda wasn’t there to cuddle “her boys” they always had a safe, warm bed to snuggle up in, either in the home of one of our caring volunteers or at a wonderful approved kennel partner, where they played and hung out with their doggie friends. The Cherished Pets’ vet team also provided specialist senior dog care that a mature, 14-year-old gentleman like Basteyn needs to stay healthy.
Belinda trusted Cherished Pets with the care and rehoming of “her boys”. We had the hard conversations with her to understand her wishes and plan for their care after she was gone. When the day of Belinda’s funeral came around, Cherished Pets took the boys to the service to say goodbye and afterwards Belinda’s friend took them for a walk in You Yangs to remember their walks` here with Belinda. The boys are now in Cherished Pets’ care, and we will look after them like family until we can find them their new home.
Donate to help cases like this
Sadly, this is not an uncommon story.
Cherished Pets work tirelessly to help cases like Belinda's every day and the demand for our service is increasing.
Every crisis pet care plan costs at least $140 a week.
Your donation will fund pet care packages giving pet owners like Belinda the peace of mind their pets won’t be forgotten in a crisis.
We are accepting adoption applications for Basteyn and Gage. Please contact care@cherishedpetcare.com.au for more information and to express your interest. They will go to the home that is the best match for them and to honour Belinda’s wishes the dogs will need to stay together.
